Engine Protest

Following a recent enginge protest under rule 168a, the engine of BriSCA F2 363 Lee McGill was sealed at Cowdenbeath on Saturday 20 September.

The engine was stripped at the premises of Engine Services @ Rosewell, in the presence of GMP on Thursday 25 September. Before any work was done the seals were checked and found to be as they were when the car was sealed @ Cowdenbeath.

The following are the results of the checks:-

  1. Carburettor, was a standard genuine Weber 32/36, there were no modifications or signs of polishing or reprofiling was evident, the chokes when checked with micrometer were to the correct measurements as per the rule book i.e. 26mm & 27mm. The top end enrichment were not blocked off or modified. The needle valve was at 250. Power valve in the base fuel bowl was sealed off. Floats were not modified or weighted.
  2. Cylinder head, The ports and chambers on the head were as originally cast and there was no Fettling done at all, the head bolts were all standard ford bolt and no centre cam strap was fitted. Valve springs were single springs, the valves were again ford valves and were measured at 42mm inlet & 36mm exhaust. Ball studs in the head were all of standard length. The head gasket was a standard ford head gasket.
  3. Block, The block when check was correct by the rule book, the pistons at TDC did not protrude above the face, and bore was at 91.3mm i.e. first re bore size. And stroke was 76.95mm. The crank was again correct by the rule book and weight was 13.1kg.
  4. Pistons, All four pistons were ford production type and all four had the original manufactures markings present, and had all three rings fitted, there were no signs of any alterations or machining on the pistons.
  5. Con rods, all four were correct as per the rule book.
  6. Flywheel & Clutch, were standard 2l components and when weighed was 12.8kg.
  7. Inlet Manifold, the inlet Manifold was in standard form and showed in signs of any work or modifications.
  8. Distributor, was standard as per rule book.


This report was compiled by D Borthwick of GMP who was present at the engine check and also verified all the measurements and visual checks.

GMP were happy to declare the engine and all component parts were legal and complied with the BriSCA Car Construction Regulations 2008. This being the case the protest fee of £150 was handed over to Lee McGill to assist with the costs of the rebuild of his engine.
