On this day in 1996, the planned World Championship qualifying round for St Columb was switched to the United Downs Raceway, St Day. A dispute at St Columb over the access road to the circuit had seen the track temporarily closed down, which resulted in a delay of twelve months until BriSCA F2 Stock Cars eventually raced there for the first time. At St Day, however, 642 Dave Luscombe led home 667 Tim Farrell and 403 Tony White on a night when track lighting left a lot to be desired.
