Rule Clarification
Clarification of rule that provides for the upgrading of final winners. See Appendix B of the Rule Book - page 58.
For the second time in the past year there appears to be some uncertainty about the operation of the rule that provides for the upgrading of an A, B or C grade final winner, with regard to the actual timing of the upgrade. The rule is contained in Appendix B of the rule book and states: 'If an A, B or C grade driver wins a final, that driver will be upgraded by one grade with effect from the fifth day after the final win.'
To clarify matters - if, as an A, B or C grade driver, you win a final on a Saturday (afternoon or evening), you are upgraded by one grade for any meeting held the following Thursday (whether afternoon or evening). If you win a final on a Sunday, you are upgraded for any meeting held the following Friday.
Note that should (say) a Saturday evening meeting be so delayed that the final is not run until after midnight (it has happened!), for the purposes of operating the upgrading rule, that final win is interpreted as having taken place on the scheduled date of the meeting (i.e. on the Saturday, not the Sunday).
