During the latter stages of the meeting final at Skegness on 26 July 2011, there was a power cut which affected not only Skegness Stadium, but also the surrounding area. After contact was made with the local electricity supplier, the information given was that full power would not be back on at the stadium before midnight.
With that news, the promotion were left with no option than to declare the result of the race as per the rule book:
In the event of any car in a stopped race having completed more than 3/4 of the total distance, the race shall be deemed ended and positions awarded according to the last fully completed lap of each car.
It should be noted that the race was on lap 16 (of 20) when the power cut arose, and thus, within its final quarter of the race distance.
Skegness Stadium would like to apologise to drivers and fans alike that it was not possible to run the final to its conclusion, or to stage the Grand National Championship heat. However, the loss of power was completely outwith the promotion’s control. As a goodwill gesture, the next F2 GN at Skegness will be for double prize money.
