Zetec Engine Con Rod Bolts

BriSCA F2/SSCA has been made aware that some engine builders are facing an issue with the supply of new bolts for con-rods when rebuilding Zetec engines.

In response to this issue, BriSCA F2/SSCA is taking a two-pronged approach... (1) undertaking research in to alternative suppliers of stretch-bolts (for which the con-rod was designed), (2) reviewing the implications of the requested use of ARP bolts (non-stretch, for which the con-rod was not designed).

For those building engines who are unaware, the 1800cc and 1600cc Zetec engines both use the same con-rods/bolts as the 2-litre Zetec.
Common practice on a first-time build (i.e. on an engine that has not been subjected to the higher RPMs of race use) is to reuse original Ford bolts, and only on a rebuild after significant race use are the con-rod bolts then replaced.

At present it is NOT permitted by the regulations to machine and re-size the con-rods, as ARP non-stretch bolt installation instructions clearly state is necessary.
Such a requirement clearly comes with further additional cost, it's not just the additional cost of the ARP bolt set but machining time as well, and has wider implications on the standard 2-litre Zetec engine for both BriSCA F2 and SSCA racing.

BriSCA F2/SSCA requires time to research and investigate the issue, and agree an alternative option, but in the meantime the above solution is a known, tried and tested workaround.
Further information and a subsequent decision on any regulation change will be made in the first half of 2026.
